KEELS ‑ Koch Emergency Egress Lighting System
Product Part Number: 2003169
Description
In
2003, Koch developed a totally new HEELS variant. KEELS (Koch EELS) incorporates
all the performance and actuation characteristics of the standard EELS
while including a multi‑axis crash sensor within the same housing. This
impact sensor provides automatic triggering of the system in the event
of a crash. In addition, the KEELS can be used to operate other external
equipment such as harness pretensioners or air bags from this same unit.
The new KEELS automatically tests its system integrity upon aircraft
power up. This makes the KEELS totally independent and does not require
any special arming input by the cockpit crew. There are two membrane
switches integral to the label. The first is a preflight press‑to‑test
that indicates battery condition as well as the status of the light strips
attached to the Control Unit.
The second switch allows the system to be disabled in the event cargo,
or other obstructions are placed in front of the emergency exit. The
center connector on the Control Unit provides for the attachment of a
remote water probe, or with the use of an adapter, a water probe integral
to the Control Unit. KEELS requires 22 to 29 volts for operation.
Product Applications
Any aircraft or land‑based personnel‑carrying vehicle can be configured
