EELS ‑ Emergency Egress Lighting System

Description


In 1999, Koch designed a lightweight system that would perform in exactly the same manner as HEELS, but at a fraction of the weight and size of the earlier system.

The challenge was to build a Control Unit within the same enclosure as the former PMG Box and to include the PMG circuitry as well as providing a water probe within the same enclosure. In EELS, the light strips consist of surface mount LEDs mounted on a semi‑rigid printed circuit board and housed within a sealed polycarbonate tube. As with the original HEELS, the light strips provide a ± 65º viewing angle and meet all the requirements of MIL‑L‑85676AS . The EELS system was qualified in early 2000 and is in service on US Customs aircraft and the Marine Corps AAAV.

Product Applications

Any aircraft or land‑based personnel‑carrying vehicle can be configured to utilize the new EELS system. There are a number of actuating methods from manual operation to water immersion that can be used to trigger this system. Please contact H. Koch & Sons for further information.
